Here’s one you don’t see every day! This 1961 Martin 112T was the “sister” amp to the DeArmond R15T - being part of DeArmond’s arrangement with Martin to supply kit for their electric instruments. The circuit is often described as a 5E3 “beefed up” with larger transformers - and this amp does sound quite like a tweed Deluxe of the era. The Martin has grown quite collectible, and would make a wonderful accoutrement for your early 60’s Martin F-65!
This amp works as it should, and sounds absolutely spectacular. It has all of the saggy overdriven tone you could expect from a 5E3; with the addition of a mellow and organic sounding tremolo channel. It produces overtones and harmonics that seem to complement almost any pickup configuration!
When this amp was first received, it appeared to be all original except for the handle and speaker. The circuit appears unchanged, with the power transformer dating to the 45th week of 1960, output transformer to the 50th week of 1960, and pots dating to late 1960 and early 1961. the For safety and reliability, a grounded power cable was added, and the electrolytic capacitor can was exchanged with a fresh replacement from CE Manufacturing (with the same values) - the original resistors here were reused. The original Jensen P12R was not with the amp, however a brand new “reissue” P12R has been fitted to maintain proper appearance and voice; and it really seems to pair well with the amp - with a good amount of warmth and relatively early breakup. While handle is not original, it appears to be a nice thick belt leather and seems trustworthy to carry the amp with. Handle mounting brackets do appear to be original. The tubes are all recent replacements, except for the RCA 5Y3 rectifier.
Condition wise it shows some various wear from use as many vintage, well loved amps usually do. The tolex and grill cloth are original, with some peeling of the tolex and wear in the corners. The grill cloth does not have any major rips, but a few snags here and there. The control panel shows some pitting, and no attempt to clean or restore it has been made. The pots and jacks have been deoxidized and all function quietly as they should.
This amp sounds absolutely fantastic, and would be an ideal addition for any studio. It is ready to be played and enjoyed!
Original cap can and power cable will be included in the sale.
