Very cool vintage Greco from the prime of the lawsuit era! The “Super Sounds” was clearly a shot at a CBS era Strat, with the cool large headstock and CBS style decal. This one has a lot of mojo, with the looks and feel you’d want out of a vintage Strat.
The body looks to be Sen/Ash as could be expected in this model. Being a ‘76, it is an earlier example and features the super cool offset “G” stamped sealed tuning machines, along with the earlier headstock decal style. The pickups appear to be the earlier unmarked Maxon PU-100s, and they sound fantastic, and much like a 70s Fender. The pickguard is original and date coded to 1976 as well. Under the pickguard, the bridge pickup route has been expanded to be able to accommodate a humbucker that the previous owner had installed, however the original pickup has been reinstalled, and with the guard on is undetectable. The bridge is original with the fat Greco block, however the saddles have been swapped out for Graphtec units - a welcome performance upgrade. The neck is the typical 3 piece maple, and Greco really nailed the shape - compared to the resident ‘75 Strat here, it is strikingly similar in feel.
Cosmetically it shows some miscellaneous scratches, dings, etc that you might expect to find on a 50 year old guitar that has seen some use. It has the typical Strat neck pocket finish checks that are purely cosmetic, and overall the guitar has a nice played in vibe.
These earlier SE’s are hard to find in The States, so don’t miss your chance!
Includes the very cool original naugahyde gigbag, along with the tremolo arm.
